DARK DATA
ART DIRECTION AND VISUAL DESIGN - SPRING 2022WEBSITE - MFADT.PARSONS.EDU/DARKDATA/2022
Developed in collaboration with MFA Design and Technology students, Dark Data is an exploration into data privacy and surveillance in relation to ourselves and our existence in both the physical and online world.
As the lead Art Director, I collaborated with a team consisting of my assistant art director, 2 technical directors, 2 editors, and 8 contributors over the course of one month to bring this website from ideation to implementation.
The idea behind the aesthetic choice of a nostalgic desktop is to call back to the origins of the web, a time where notions of data privacy were still not fully fledged, yet the seeds of the internet panopticon very much existed. Juxtaposing darker themes of privacy and surveillance, Dark Data also seeks to touch upon fond memories associated with this nostalgia, and bring playfulness to mind, encouraging the visitor to explore and and interact with the site.
